The Woman's Parliament
Manitoba, Alberta and Saskatchewan were the first provinces that allowed women to vote in the year 1916. Women in Canada could vote in federal elections in 1918. The decisions that were made were finalized because of a mock parliament women staged in 1916 at a Winnipeg theatre. The rights of men and women reversed in the Women's Parliament. Men did not get to vote but women did. At a certain point in the show, a group of men rushed in and demanded a right to vote. Nellie McClung is known for being an activist among the demand for women's rights. She is also known for playing the role of a premier in the Woman's Parliament.

Respond- Page 347: Question 3
In what way did giving woman the right to vote in Canada express a new idea of citizenship? Why is the right to vote so fundamental in a democracy?
Women getting the right to vote in Canada expressed a new idea of citizenship because it later evolved into women getting jobs like men. Also later on people started treating women and men like the same species and giving them both equal rights and equal freedoms. Having the right to vote is so fundamental in our democracy because in order for Canada or any place to be a democracy, typically, somebody has to be able to vote. Also, voting shows citizens that the government does care about the people's opinion of who represents their country and who makes the important decisions that form the people's lives.
